Oxford University Blues Info
The Oxford University Ice Hockey Club (OUIHC) is home to the Men’s and Women’s Blues ice hockey teams of the University of Oxford. The Club is a student-run, inclusive community of academic ice hockey players who attend the University of Oxford and nearby institutions. Matriculated Oxford University students on the Men’s and Women’s Blues squads participate in the near-200-year old tradition of representing the University of Oxford in the Varsity Match against Cambridge University. Varsity Match players have the opportunity to earn the prestigious Oxford Blue for their performance in this annual fixture, a University award bestowed on its top student-athletes. The first official ice hockey Varsity Match took place in 1900 but the origin of the Varsity Match is founded in an Oxford versus Cambridge game held in St Moritz, Switzerland, in 1885. In 1921, the OUIHC was formed as an official University sports club – uniting all ice hockey players at Oxford. Much like in 1921, the values of inclusion and unity are still upheld by the OUIHC today with the Club accommodating for students of all abilities. The OUIHC has upheld the tradition and integrity of awarding the Oxford Blue since 1933, with its Blues teams (men and women) each holding Discretionary Full Blue Status with the University's Blues Committee and registration with the University of Oxford and OU Sports Federation. Just like all other sports Blues teams at Oxford University, a Varsity Match victory is the primary goal of every season.

Facebook.com/oxforduniversityicehockeyclub Twitter.com/OUIHCmensbluesIce hockey at Oxford, historically known as the Oxford University Ice Hockey Club (OUIHC), can trace its roots back to the apocryphal 1885 ice hockey/bandy match against Cambridge and the official Varsity Match of 1900. By the 1920s the team was dominating European ice hockey, winning the Spengler Cup tournament on 4 occasions (1923, 1925, 1931, 1932). With the acquisition of Blues status from the University's Blues Committee in 1933, the Oxford University team has annually played the Varsity Match against Cambridge for the coveted Oxford Blue award. With the absense of a Blues team for two seasons (2012-14), a Blues team was reinstated in 2014 and has since been known in the league as the Oxford University Blues (one of four teams in the OUIHC). The Men's Blues compete in Divison 1 Checking - the top division of the British University Ice Hockey Association (BUIHA). The team is comprised predominantly of Oxford University students, but also accepts staff, alumni and students from adjacent institutions, upholding the Club’s values of inclusivity, integration and development of university hockey in Oxford which were implemented in the first Club constitution in 1921.Please contact the Men's Blues Captain at OUIHCmen@gmail.com

Oxford Womens Blues
Nationals: 19-20 Tier 3 Cup Comp: 23-24 N-CHK 1 South
Each season the Oxford Women’s Blues step onto the ice with a competitive spirit and determination to build on the talent from the previous year. Not only does the team represent Oxford in ice hockey, but it also draws on a combination of international and local talent.
We are proud to be one of the UK’s first women’s teams, having started in the 1981/1982 season along with the only other women’s team in the BUIHA, Cambridge. Since the beginning one of our key goals has been to foster hockey amongst women in the UK. While we emphasize competitive performance and professional sportsmanship, each year we also develop beginner and novice players by training a new cohort of rookies in practices.
We’re always looking for a fun and fast-paced challenge match, so contact us if you’re interested: ouihcwomen@gmail.com
