Founded in 2001, the Birmingham Lions Ice Hockey Club is a BUIHA club based at the University of Birmingham, representing Higher Education institutes in Birmingham (University of Birmingham, University College Birmingham, Birmingham City University, Newman University, Aston University).
We compete at all levels, and pride ourselves on being inclusive club, that has experienced great successes in previous years and we endeavour to uphold this strong level of performance!
We have sessions for both beginners and experienced players, and also run regular socials where members can get to know each other and have fun!
No matter your hockey or skating ability, anyone will be welcomed to our club, even if you just want to join us for the socials!
For Freshers of any Birmingham University interested in joining in September 2018, please come and visit us at Sports Fair located at the University of Birmingham or BCU on the 26th September, where we will be available all day to answer questions and give out more information on the sport and our club!

Nationals: 18-19 Tier 2 Cup Comp: 19-20 CHK 2 South
The 2015-16 season saw Lions A Team winning the Division 2 Checking North Division and then going on to defeat Cardiff Redhawks in the playoff game!!
Since then the Lions A have continued to play well following their move to Division 2 Checking South, and we have high hopes for the 2018/2019 season following a truly memorable all star performance at Nationals 2018.
Our annual varsity event this year saw us narrowly losing to Coventry and Warwick Panthers, but we maintained a strong turn out of supporters despite the adverse weather conditions. Next year we look forward to continuing this new found rivalry, with plans already in motion to host our biggest event yet.

As always the Lions B put in a respectable performance this season, narrowly missing out on securing a spot in the semi finals at Nationals. We have high hopes for the future success of this team in the coming year!

Run as a development team for the last few years, the Lions C team contains the bulk of our members. Next year we intend to run the team with a more competitively minded spirit, encouraging progression for the future development of the club.

As our development team, the Lions D team is aimed at complete newcomers to the sport. We run Beginners sessions throughout the year to enable players with no experience to take part in Ice Hockey, with the intention of training them up to the level where they will confidently be able to compete at nationals!
