2016-17 Tier 5 Power Rankings

UEA Avalanche

1 - UEA Avalanche Non Mover

W: 3D: 1L: 0GF: 83GA: 18GD: +65PP%: 50.0PK%: 0.0
Pts: Martin (30) G: Martin (23) A: Wolverson (8) SAV%: Rodwell (1.00)
UEA Avalanche
Losing in penalty shots (or game winning shots, as is the IIHF preferred term) in a semi final can only have inspired the East Anglicans to plow harder in training. They have some pretty lopsided wins as they build towards this Tier V and you would be lucky to get even odds from me on this team.
London Dragons C

2 - London Dragons C New Entry

W: 0 D: 0 L: 0 GF: 0 GA: 0 GD: 0 PP%: 0.00 PK%: 0.00
Pts: N/A G: N/A A: N/A SAV%: N/A
London Dragons C
With their B team having an impressive outing the non-checking ranks this season and the possible threat of having to explain themselves and any poor performances to the Kalle, King of Dragons, King of the Great Grass Sea and runner up (though there is a stewards' enquiry) in Mr Handsome Finland 2016, Uusitalo, I expect this team to do some damage.
Sheffield Bears F

3 - Sheffield Bears F New Entry

W: 0 D: 0 L: 0 GF: 0 GA: 0 GD: 0 PP%: 0.00 PK%: 0.00
Pts: N/A G: N/A A: N/A SAV%: N/A
Sheffield Bears F
F is for fantastic and a few other words that may describe the Bears franchise. It is great to see university hockey continue to grow and grow so much that one of our clubs requires six entries to Nationals. Do not be fooled that the Bears F efforts will be folly, as history shows the Bears always are there or there abouts at Nationals.
Nottingham Mavericks D

4 - Nottingham Mavericks D New Entry

W: 1D: 0L: 3GF: 15GA: 44GD: -29PP%: 25.0PK%: 81.8
Pts: McNally (4) G: Bryson (4) A: Boon (3) SAV%: Balcová (0.64)
Nottingham Mavericks D
The Mavericks D could be a wildcard this year, after the E team reached the semis last year. Do not be (Robin) Hood winked into thinking that this team will be a bust.
Manchester Metrostars C

5 - Manchester Metrostars C Down 3

W: 1D: 0L: 0GF: 3GA: 1GD: +2PP%: 0.0PK%: 0.0
Pts: Beigan (1) G: Sassoon (1) A: Beigan (1) SAV%: Crouch (0.90)
Manchester Metrostars C
Any time I rank a Metrostars non-checking team low they go out and make me look like a complete fool, so I am going to rank them in the upper middle spot to avoid looking to foolish either way.
Birmingham Lions C

6 - Birmingham Lions C New Entry

W: 1D: 1L: 5GF: 20GA: 41GD: -21PP%: 14.3PK%: 100.0
Pts: Seager (6) G: Paulson (6) A: Thrift (2) SAV%: Barron (0.80)
Birmingham Lions C
I do not think Giblin will be back, back again :( As that era draws to a close we look forward to welcoming new golden era of the Lions C. Maybe they will go far as one of the few cup teams in Tier V, but I do not expect these kittys to be purring when all is said and done.
Southampton Spitfires D

7 - Southampton Spitfires D Up 1

W: 0 D: 0 L: 0 GF: 0 GA: 0 GD: 0 PP%: 0.00 PK%: 0.00
Pts: N/A G: N/A A: N/A SAV%: N/A
Southampton Spitfires D
Flying in at 7 is the Spitfires D team. The Spitfires normally field decent non-checking teams, which is strange since they play in Gosport and checking is unavoidable!
Northumbria Kings C

8 - Northumbria Kings C New Entry

W: 0D: 0L: 0GF: 0GA: 0GD: 0PP%: 0.0PK%: 0.0
Pts: N/A G: N/A A: N/A SAV%: N/A
Northumbria Kings C
The Kings C, so is that the real life royal equivalent of Harry in terms of claiming the Throne? Powered by Mrs Ivill's baked goods this team will likely be full of life, but I think they will look on smiling politely as somebody else is coronated.
UCL Yetis C

9 - UCL Yetis C Down 4

W: 1D: 0L: 6GF: 26GA: 92GD: -66PP%: 33.3PK%: 75.0
Pts: Tree (11) G: Tree (8) A: Fernandez (6) SAV%: KIM (0.83)
UCL Yetis C
I cannot miss the opportunity to put the Yetis team adjacent to the Kings after last year's slobberknocker as the teams faced off (Kings D in fact) in their final group game. YES there was a fight in tier V. Hay was made, sparks flew and when all was said and done it was bloody good entertainment. Not encouraging a repeat of course.
Nottingham Mavericks E

10 - Nottingham Mavericks E Down 1

W: 0 D: 0 L: 0 GF: 0 GA: 0 GD: 0 PP%: 0.00 PK%: 0.00
Pts: N/A G: N/A A: N/A SAV%: N/A
Nottingham Mavericks E
Last year's semi finalists. Who can forget Max Power (his first name wasn't Max, but who cares). So much fun to watch last year until they were truly humbled by the Bears E. Come on team #doitforrathbone
Hull Ice Hogs C

11 - Hull Ice Hogs C Down 4

W: 0 D: 0 L: 0 GF: 0 GA: 0 GD: 0 PP%: 0.00 PK%: 0.00
Pts: N/A G: N/A A: N/A SAV%: N/A
Hull Ice Hogs C
Raise a glass and roast (sorry meant toast) the Hogs, as the team who be unlikely to collect many Ws, but will have fun doing their thing. With their B team having a winless cup run I doubt the Hogs will go streaky (sorry I mean go on a streak).
Birmingham Lions D

12 - Birmingham Lions D Down 2

W: 0 D: 0 L: 0 GF: 0 GA: 0 GD: 0 PP%: 0.00 PK%: 0.00
Pts: N/A G: N/A A: N/A SAV%: N/A
Birmingham Lions D
Unfortunately somebody has to be last in these rankings and that dishonour goes to the Lions D team this time round. The Lions C team had a bit of a rough time this year in the cup and the fall out could be disaster for the Bears D, but Lions 'do not sow' and they'll not back down.
