The BUIHA operates training camps for its members, alumnus and guests. The Camps are subsidised by the BUIHA Development Fund and take place throughout the year, typically in Summer (June), Pre-Season (September) and Winter (January), in both the UK and Finland. Players participating in BUIHA Camps often benefit from more ice-time in just a few days when attending our Camps than they might in a whole Semester with their respective Clubs! Players will certainly touch the puck more frequently and there is a much better ratio of players to coaches!!

The BUIHA appreciates the fact that many players never had the opportunity to play ice hockey before attending University. In addition, not all BUIHA clubs have access to qualified and experienced coaches, and those that do often have multiple teams on the ice during single sessions, which for the vast majority sees one hour of training per week. Therefore, our Camps are tailored for players who are either relatively new to the sport, or have less than five years playing experience, and ideally suited to players that do not get chance to hone the fundamental skating, stickhandling, passing and shooting skills, which are essential for player development. In addition, the qualified and experienced coaches will work with individuals and small groups, both on and off the ice, to maximise player development, in a structured and fun environment. There will also be many opportunities to focus upon positional roles complemented with team-based drills and game strategies, all in a challenging and competitive environment.

All BUIHA Camps are open to current BUIHA members, Alumnus and students commencing study in Higher Education in the 2018/19 season. We also offer places to guests (depending on availability). All persons MUST be over 18 years of age and MUST wear full ice hockey kit in accordance with IIHF regulations.

Many players that have represented their academic institutions and BUIHA Clubs, have gone on to represent the Great Britain Universities (Men’s and Women’s) Ice Hockey Teams at the FISU World University Games (Winter Universiade), in addition to Great Britain Teams (Men and Women) U20s and Seniors, at the IIHF World Championships. In addition, a significant number of alumni play semi-pro or pro in the UK (NIHL and EIHL), with some international students returning home to play in their respective national leagues, and even their respective National Teams. Some of the coaches operating BUIHA Camps are involved with the GBU and GBR Teams, and thus are ideally placed to offer advice and guidance for any British players showing the attributes of potentially representing one of our National Teams in the future via the Ice Hockey UK Performance Pathway.

Cosmin Davidescu - Cambridge, PhD in Pure Mathematics

“Great, would strongly recommend it to anyone”.

Katy Jones - University of Nottingham, Medicine

“…really enjoyed the camp, thought the coaching was brilliant, and what was covered was at a good pace, well explained and a good variety of topics”.

Essi Aittasalo - Edinburgh Napier University, BA English & Film

“I was happy with everything in the camp and I thought all the coaches and other players made the camp an amazing experience”.

“Having more ice time in less than a week than we would have in months back home is absolutely beyond anything I could dream for training”.
